Q Awards
About The Q Awards
"Q" Awards are pretty rare because they can only be made by people who use mental health services in East Sussex. A
"Q" award can be made by any mental health service user, to anyone
working in the mental health services that they feel deserves
recognition. The important citeria is that this is the only criteria! Unlike
most award schemes that often create elaborate proceedures before
anyone can gain one, any current service user who wants to issue a "Q"
award to a mental health worker can do so. There is no competition, no
hoops to go through, and no palava. The value of the award is that it is
simply in the power of the service user to make it. Nominations can be made in person or anonymously if you prefer.
To make a "Q" award all you have to do is to nominate a named worker
here. You don't have to ask them if they want it first (we naturally
assume that they will!). If you want to share anything about
the reason why you want them to have a "Q" award, and you want that
reason to be published, then you can make that known when you submit
their name to recieve a "Q" award. "Q" Awards will be
posted up on the userQnews site for all to see.At the end of December
every year UserQ will host an award celebration that everyone who has
received an award will be invited to attend along with whoever has
nominated them if they want to be known. You can choose at this
celebration to personally present the award certificate and lapel badge
that we hope recipients will be proud to wear. There are
many "unsung hero's" working in mental health, who make sometimes small
but very significant differences to the quality of peoples lives. We
need them to know that they are appreciated and that they matter even
though they might be "just doing their job" and being paid to do it.
This is a powerful way for service users to help service providers
understand what really helps them to cope with and recover from periods
of illness and live the life they choose and you can help do that. One
of the few things we all have the power to do, as human beings, is to
appreciate each other and acknowledge the care and understanding that
someone else gives us when we are unhappy, ill, lost in the field of
human (mis)understanding, angry, vexed or distressed. But we can also
choose to celebrate their contribution to our happiness and wellbeing. To make a "Q" award send an email to robin@userqnews.net
with the name of the worker and your name if you want them to know who
you are and a brief reason why you want them to receive an award and we
will publish this on the site.
